Waqf amendment bill in rajya sabha: Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has rejected the allegations of the opposition that the government has brought this bill to intimidate the minorities. Responding to the long discussion held on Thursday (April 3) on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025 in the Rajya Sabha, he said that the opposition is doing the work of intimidating and misleading Muslims. He assured that the bill will not cause any harm to Muslims.
Appealing to the opposition MPs not to mislead Muslims, Kiren Rijiju said, “The decision taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken a lot of thought. They (opposition members) are repeatedly saying that we are scaring Muslims, but not so. We are not, but you are not doing the work of scaring Muslims. Do not mislead Muslims about about this. “
Everyone’s suggestion was taken care of in drafts the bill , Kiren
The minister said that when this bill draft was done, everyone’s suggestions were taken into consideration. If we look at the original draft of the Waqf bill and the existing draft, we have made many changes in it. These changes have happened only with everyone’s suggestions. Most people have been accepted in JPC. All suggestions cannot be accepted. The MPs of the parties involved in the JPC alleged that their suggestions were not heard, but in such a situation we decided with a majority. This is what happens in democracy.
The minister said that out of 11 members of the Waqf Board, there will be no more than three non-Muslims, it has been provided, so that there is no compromise with the interests of Muslims. Apart from this, he said that keeping in mind the objections of the opposition in JPC, it has not been implemented with prior effect.

He said that whatever ground dispute occurs in every district, the collector sees it. You had objections to keeping the collector in Waqf, so we have kept the officer above it. Kiren Rijiju said, “We repeatedly said that no interference is being done in Waqf property. The opposition has talked about many temples. The council there does not have a non-religious person member. If a dispute of Waqf Board is between Hindu-Muslim, how will it be dealt with?”

Rijiju said, “You say that there is a lot of poverty among Muslims and the government should think about the poor. After independence, the Congress was in the government for decades, so why did the Congress not work for it? Now we have to think about the poor. We have repeatedly said that there is no interference in the property of Waqf. If there is a dispute between Hindus and Muslims if there is a dispute?”
