Waqf amendment bill: Both houses of Parliament have passed the Waqf Amendment Bill. Now this law will be made after getting approval from the President. Meanwhile, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh claimed that Biju Janata Dal (BJD) supported the BJP on one occasion. At the same time, BJD Vice President Debi Mishra issued a detailed statement on voting in Rajya Sabha in favor of the bill. Congress Rajya Sabha MP Jairam Ramesh posted on X and said, “Voting in Lok Sabha on Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024 was 288-232, while 128 votes were cast in favor of the Bill in Rajya Sabha and 95 votes in opposition. The difference of victory for the BJP was very low in the House. Gathered. This number would have been more than 95 if the BJD would not have kneeled in front of BJP’s pressure. “

According to a report by news agency ANI, BJD Vice President Debi Mishra said, “It was a matter of intensive consultation. Our MPs were given freedom to analyze the situation. A month ago the party decided to oppose the bill. However, there have been many incidents since then, new concerns and apprehensions have arisen, especially those streams can weaken the powers of the minorities.

He said that the party has always been committed to protect the actual rights of minorities. In a true democratic system, cultural and constitutional rights of all communities should be protected, including minority communities.

Debi Mishra said that there may be concern about the misuse of power by some individuals in the Waqf Board, but the great apprehension of weakening minority institutions should be addressed. For this reason, our MPs were requested to do intensive study of this bill, consider independently and express their views.
