India has taken a stance on the statement of US President Donald Trump, in which he asked Apple to stop making iPhone in India and increase production in America. A senior official of the Government of India said that “India has now become a strong center of global mobile construction and companies take decisions by looking at the competitiveness here and not from any political rhetoric.”
When a direct response was sought to Trump’s statement, the officer refused to comment. However, he definitely added that India has become a trusted manufacturing partner under ‘Make in India’ and companies like Apple decide on the global competition.
I do not want Apple to create iPhone in India- Trump
Donald Trump recently said during an event in Doha, the capital of Qatar, “Tim is my friend but now I am hearing that they are making iPhone in India. I don’t want you to make in India, if you take care of India.” Trump claimed that Apple would increase production in America after his talks, but he did not give any details.

Apple’s answer to India: our plans did not change
According to PTI report, after Trump’s comment, the Government of India contacted Apple officials. Apple assured that their manufacturing and investment plans in India will remain unchanged and India will remain an important part of their global supply chain.
Apple’s dominance in India
Mobile manufacturing in India is growing rapidly, especially through global veterans like Apple. Around 40 million iPhone is being assembled every year in India, which is about 15% of Apple’s global production. This work is mainly done by Taiwanese companies Foxconn and Pagtron. The Tata Electronics, which recently acquired the India unit of Pagtron, is also increasing its capacity.
In 2024-25, Apple in India estimated $ 22 billion iPhones assembled, which is 60% more than the previous year. Most of these iPhones were exported to the US. More than 3 million iPhones were sent to America in March 2025. Foxconn and Tata Electronics are making iPhones and Airpods in India. More than two lakh jobs were created in Apple’s Indian ecosystem.

Indo-US trade relations are also monitored
India and the United States had a $ $ 129 billion bilateral trade in 2024, with India’s $ 45 billion trade surplus. This point has been a cause of concern for Trump administration. In this background, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal is going on a US tour from May 16, where there will be a high -level conversation on trade and investment.
