However, according to media reports, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has made it clear that the match will not be canceled. A senior official said, “It is not a bilateral chain but part of a multinational tournament. If India moves away from the match, Pakistan will get a walkover.”
Why cannot India-Pakistan Asia Cup match be deferred?
The Asia Cup is not the ICC but the Asian Cricket Council, whose current president is the head of the Pakistan Cricket Board, Mosin Naqvi. The broadcast rights of this tournament have been bought by Sony Network for $ 17 million (about Rs 1,400 crore), which are for 8 years.

Indo-Pak match is the largest USP (main attraction) of this deal, and its viewership will be more than all other matches. Although the BCCI is still not under the Sports Ministry, the officials have said that they will keep an eye on the situation keeping in mind the public sentiment. Last week, the India-Pakistan Legends match to be held in England was also canceled due to online opposition, due to which some people started demanding the cancellation of the Asia Cup match.
