New Delhi. Test captain Shubman Gill was included in India’s T20 team for the next month’s Asia Cup cricket tournament on Tuesday, as he was excluded from the last three series of the smallest format of the game. 25-year-old Gill has returned to the 15-member team as the vice-captain of captain Suryakumar Yadav thanks to a brilliant performance with the bat in the recent Test series against England. The top-order batsman scored 754 runs and India’s youth team made a comeback after lagging behind and made the series of five matches 2-2. The Asia Cup will start from 9 September and the last champion India will take on the United Arab Emirates in this tournament of eight countries in Dubai a day later. India and arch -rivals Pakistan have been placed in Group A and will compete on 14 September. Earlier this year, Gill, who was made Test captain after veteran Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s retirement, last played T20 International match in July 2024. Tej bowler Jasprit Bumrah has also returned to T20 rankings after being out of two matches in England to control his charge. Bumrah’s last T20 match was India’s World Cup title win against South Africa in Barbados in June 2024. Kohli and Rohit retired from T20 international matches after this victory. After a meeting in Mumbai, national selectors announced that Bumrah would be part of the fast bowling attack with left -arm fast bowlers Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana. Akshar Patel, Varun Chakraborty and Kuldeep Yadav will lead the spin attack.
