A lot is happening in Kathmandu nowadays. It was the only Hindu nation in the world for a long time, where the monarchy was also applicable. In the year 2008, the Constitution could be formed several years after the end of this system, under which Nepal is now a secular country. However, the Nepalese people have been raising the demand of Hindu country including democracy and secularism and the king’s rule. But will the effect of this change in Kathmandu be limited to only there, or will its relationship with neighbors change with a new image?
How many ups and downs came in Nepal’s politics
The history of Nepal is full of political changes. Incidents like the end of the status of monarchy and Hindu country did not take place in one night, but many stops came. In the 18th century, the foundation of a strong Hindu monarchy was laid with small states. After this, this system continued for about two and a half hundred years. But with many changes. There was a time in the middle when the king i.e. the Shah dynasty was only a symbolic power. At the same time, the power went to the power Rana family. It also came to be called Proxy Monarki, where the seal is of the king but the other is taking decisions.
In the fifties, there was a rebellion in the country and then the Royal Family again came to a piece. In the nineties, the rest of the world was rebelled here again. It was so big that the then king Birendra was forced to take many decisions, which they usually do not take. However, Nepal still remained a monarchy and Hindu nation.
In 2001, the Nepali monarchy was shocked when the then king Birendra, Rani Aishwarya and the entire royal family were shot by Prince Dipendra. After this, Gyanendra Shah became the new king. But his dictatorship increased so much that the public erupted and took power in his hands. After this mass movement, the monarchy was abolished, as well as secularism came into force by ending the status of Hindu nation of the country.
Why demand for depth return
Now the demand to make a Hindu nation is in full swing to remove the monarchy and secularism again. Actually, there were all three economic, social and political reasons behind it. When Kathmandu was secular in 2008, people hoped that stability would come, corruption would be less, and Nepal would be financially stronger. But the opposite happened. The government changed about a dozen times in less than two decades. No PM could complete his term. Almost everyone was accused of corruption. Inflation in the country increased rapidly. In such a situation, people started feeling that the country was more stable during the monarchy.
Being a Hindu nation was such a tamaga, which Nepal showed to be proud many times. On being secular, people started feeling that their religious and cultural identity should not end. Meanwhile, alleged conversion also increased.
Which religions are there at the moment
According to the Census of 2021, the Hindu population in the country is more than 81 percent. This is followed by Buddhism with 8 percent. After this, we are going to believe in Islam, which is more than 5 percent. This is followed by Christianity, and the rest of the mixed people live.
Why talk of changing demography
Here those who allegedly believe in Christian and Muslim religion are growing. Especially Muslims were 4 percent a decade ago, and then went above 5 percent directly. According to the census report, followers of Hindu and Buddhism have fallen by 0.11 percent and 0.79 percent respectively. Conversely, the population of Islam and Christians gained 0.69, and 0.36 percent respectively. In view of this, many types of fear are being expressed, and it is believed that it will be easy to keep track by giving the country old status.
Capturing powerful countries
The Nepali Congress, including many Hindu organizations, argues that if Sanatan is to be saved, it will not work by saying secular. There is also an argument that when a powerful country can call itself Christian or Islamic, then why can’t Nepal say. Many parties kept demanding a referendum on this that the country should be called secular or the official status of Hindu nation should be given. Now they are getting protested with this.
How can a relationship with India and China change
If Kathmandu accepts the demand of the public, then not only within the country, but also outside, a lot will change. Especially his relationship with his neighbors. Since the power of the dynasty went to power, China raised its coin there. Earlier, Nepal had more inclination towards India and West. By the way, as far as India and China are concerned, this country kept trying to maintain balance between the two.
China’s roots became strong
After going to the monarchy, there was a dominance of the communist parties, which China supported. Beijing forced Nepal to adopt a forest China policy, that is, the country could not keep Tibetan refugees.
Along with the strong communist parties, they also started adopting China’s trade. In the year 2017, China started several infrastructure projects in Nepal. Even Chinese currency also started running in the markets there and the emphasis on teaching China language increased in schools.
On the one hand, the relationship between Nepal and China was climbing, on the other hand India and Kathmandu’s relations started deteriorating.
The neighboring country showed some parts of India on the map. Even he started getting entangled with Delhi from citizenship to water. Nepal is like a buffer state between India and China, but India can make it very difficult to go towards China. This is not even better from strategic to business points, even when our relationships have been stunned by many neighbors recently.
If the monarchy comes back, Nepal can bow down to India again. In the past, Delhi had good relations with the dynasty. On becoming a Hindu nation, the cultural and religious closeness of the country will increase further. Due to this, the foreign policy there can be pro -India. Obviously, this will stagger the Chinese market and the plans. Even now many old political parties are accusing China that they are occupying the land here and are also interfering in internal issues.
