Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has resigned from the post with immediate effect. President Draupadi Murmu has accepted the resignation of Dhankhar. The Ministry of Home Affairs has also issued a notification related to this. On the resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar from the post of Vice President, Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted on social media platform X and wished him good health. PM Modi has written in his X post that Jagdeep Dhankhar ji has got the opportunity to serve the country in many roles including the Vice President of India.
Jagdeep Dhankhar was elected to the post of Vice President in the election held on 6 August 2022. Congratulating the victory of Jagdeep Dhankhar, the candidate of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the Vice Presidential election, Prime Minister Modi tweeted and congratulated him. PM Modi thanked all the MPs who voted in favor of Jagdeep Dhankhar and said that when India is celebrating the Amrit Festival of independence, we are proud of a farmer son Vice President who has excellent legal knowledge and intellectual skills.
Jagdeep Dhankhar was sworn in as Vice President on 11 August. The first day of Jagdeep Dhankhar as Chairman in the Rajya Sabha was 7 December 2022. This winter session of 2022 was the 258th session of the Rajya Sabha and on the early day of this session, Jagdeep Dhankhar was first occupied by the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also present in the House when Jagdeep Dhankar took over the chair of the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha. PM Modi also praised Jagdeep Dhankhar in the Rajya Sabha.

What did the Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge say
Congress President and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, on holding the post of Rajya Sabha Chairman of Jagdeep Dhankhar, said that his role as the mentor of the Upper House is much larger than the rest of the roles. He had said that Pandit Nehru never allowed the rights of Rajya Sabha to decrease. He clearly stated during the budget session in 1953 that Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha together form the Parliament of India. According to our constitution, there is no difference between the authority of both houses, except money bills.

Mallikarjun Kharge further said that even though the opposition people may be less in the number force, there is strength in their experiences.
