The airport was ready for takeoff on the runway. Then the security personnel saw a bear on the runway. After this, the airport security had to struggle hard to chase the wild bear from the runway. This incident is from Yamagata Airport in Japan and the video of the bear running on the runway is also going viral on social media.
It can be seen in the video that at the Japanese airport, officials are making a lot of effort to drive away the black bear trapped on the runway. Despite this, he is roaming on the runway. Due to this, air traffic control had to cancel a dozen flights.
Bear entered the runway several times throughout the day
The bear first appeared at the North Yamagata Airport on Thursday morning, and the authorities immediately stopped operating. Then, just before noon, the bear again appeared on the runway and the flights were stopped again. It can be seen in the video that the security personnel of the airport were trying to drive him out of the car to escape the bears on the runway.
The bears were visible even after repeatedly chased
The bear ran quickly after chasing, but it is believed that he is still moving open somewhere on the site. According to The Guardian report, Yamagata Airport official Akira Nagai told the agency France-Persay that in view of such a situation, we now have no arrangement for the arrival of aircraft. He said that after the bear came on the runway for the second time, 12 flights had to be canceled due to the closure of the airport. Shikariis were called to set up a trap and the police were deployed around the airport to prevent the bear from fleeing.
Increase in bears attacks in Japan
In Japan, cases of humans facing bears have reached a record level. As of April 2024, 219 people have been attacked by bears in 12 months, killing six. Last month, a golf tournament in Central Japan was already abolished due to the bear appearance, although the organizers cited security precautions.
Bears’ infiltration in urban areas due to climate crisis
Scientists say that food sources and cold sleep periods are being affected due to climate crisis. At the same time, due to the growing society, there is a decrease in human population, due to which bears are coming to urban areas repeatedly.
