A schoolgirl committed suicide recently in Srikrishnapuram, Palakkad in Kerala. The family of the ninth grade student of Domanic Convent School has accused her school of mental harassment after suicide.

The deceased has been identified as Ashir Nanda. On June 23, she was found dead at her home. Students and parents who came to school opposed the attitude of management towards children. His family alleged that the school management had written a letter to him before the examination, which said that if his marks came down, he would be ready to return from ninth to eighth grade.

Her family said, ‘She came home really upset. An internal examination was conducted and when the marks came down, there was a reshuffle and it was seated in a separate class.

Meanwhile, school officials said that they never said that they would let it down. He said, we had only said that he will have to take the exam again. We usually do the same. Students and parents protested against the school’s attitude towards the students and demanded strict action against the culprits. CPIM’s student branch SFI said that they would march to school. A meeting was held with teachers, parents and police in the school to discuss the matter.
