Furning on this announcement of the Dalai Lama, China said that approval will have to be obtained from Beijing to choose the successor. China’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said that the successor of the Dalai Lama will be selected according to the centuries -old tradition of China. The successor of the Dalai Lama will have to follow China’s rules and religious customs.
The Dalai Lama has entrusted the responsibility of selecting his successor to the Gaden Fodrang Trust. He said that the entire process of identity and recognition of the next Dalai Lama will be held only to Gaden Fodrang Trust.
