Both Iran and Israel have described themselves as “winners” after the 12 -day war. Although Israeli’s major intention – to completely eliminate Iran’s nuclear program – could not be completed, Iran’s defense system almost collapsed in front of tremendous bombing and missile attacks.
In this report, India Today has tried to take a big picture of the entire development of this war based on video footage, government announcements and grassroots of various media reporters received from Open Source Intelligence (OSINT), Open Sources.

Iran’s huge loss on every scale
According to the assessment, Iran suffered a lot of damage at all levels – from the number of civil and military deaths to the beating of missiles and bombs, Iran was seen lagging behind every front.
More than 620 people died in Iran, including 12 nuclear scientists and 20 senior military commanders. Apart from these, about 4,870 people were injured. On the other hand, 28 civilians were killed and more than 3,200 injured in Israel, but no Israeli soldiers were killed.
Israeli attack on Tehran and other areas
In addition to major nuclear bases such as Natanj, Isfahan and Fordo, Iran, the Israeli army bombed and missile attacks at more than 300 places in western, southern and central Iran between June 13 and June 24. More than 180 air strikes were carried out only in the capital Tehran.
Air defense system performance in the match
Israel’s state -of -the -art air defense system stopped more than 540 missiles released by Iran, but according to ISW (Institute for the Study of War), about 60 Iranian missiles escaped from the Israeli defense system and fell on the ground. Most of these missiles were affected in densely populated areas, including cities like Tel Aviv.
Elimination of Iran’s air defense system
The Israeli Defense Force (IDF) started targeting its missile launcher and ammunition stock to weaken Iran’s retaliation at the beginning of the war on 13 June.
Based on the confirmed air strikes, Israel completely destroyed Iran’s 54 ballistic missile system and damaged 6. Apart from these, Israel destroyed at least 6 Surface to Air Missile System that could target Israeli aircraft. Along with this, 12 AH-1J cobra helicopters, 3 fighter aircraft and a tanker aircraft of Iran were also destroyed in the Israeli attacks.

Iranian counter -attack capacity was limited
According to the ISW report, Iran initially planned to feature 100 ballistic missiles on Israel, but during the whole war it could never stain more than 40 missiles at a time.
Israeli media reports claim that Israel created a secret unilateral drone base inside Iran, which was used to attack the Iranian missile launchers near Tehran. Also, Israel also targeted the Iranian missile manufacturing units and equipment.
Iranian missiles impact in Israel
Although Israel’s defense system was quite impressive, some Iranian missiles reached the important and residential areas of Israel. These include the headquarters of the Israeli army, Kirat Kiyat, the headquarters of the espionage agency Mossad (in Tel Aviv), and the highfa oil refinery.
The Iranian attacks were mainly focused on Tel Aviv and other parts of Central Israel, although some missiles also fell into the Israeli towns bordering Lebanon. A large hospital in the Negev desert, the southern region of Israel, was also badly damaged in the attack.
