Reacting to the speech of Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, the House Leader JP Nadda responded sharply, but also apologized later. Describing Kharge as an experienced leader, Nadda said that he has given a long statement on many ministries, which will be answered. However, he objected to the language of Kharge, saying that his word selection was below his level and the comment made on the Prime Minister is painful. He said, ‘I can understand their suffering because they have to sit in opposition for 11 years.’
Controversy over ‘Mental balance’ comment
Nadda further alleged that Kharge has joined the Congress party so much that the country has become secondary and he has made such a comment ‘Mental Balance’. The opposition erupted on this statement and there was a strong uproar in the House. Seeing the increasing protest, Nadda clarified that he takes back his words and the word ’emotional’ should be used in place of ‘mental imbalance’. He also urged that this comment be removed from the proceedings of the House.
Kharge expressed displeasure, Nadda expressed regret
Mallikarjun Kharge reacted sharply to JP Nadda’s comment and said that if he is called ‘Mantle’, he will not leave it like this. He retaliated and said that many government ministers give statements by losing mental balance themselves. In response, Nadda said that if his words have hurt the feelings of Kharge, then they apologize. However, he also said that the opposition was swept away to the extent that the Prime Minister’s dignity was not taken care of.
‘I am not going to leave it like this’: Kharge’s retaliation
On Nadda’s apology, Kharge said, ‘There are some leaders in this house which I respect. Nadda ji and Rajnath ji are involved in them, but today I am being given advice, it is a matter of shame. They should clearly apologize, I will not leave it like this. This entire incident disrupted the proceedings of the Rajya Sabha for some time and further increased the tension between the power and the opposition.
