The biggest difficulty in an attempt to provide relief to Indian nurse Nimisha Priya, who is proclaimed by the court for the murder of a citizen of Yemen, is the seriousness of the allegations against her, sources gave this information. Amidst the possibility of Priya being hanged in Yemen on 16 July, her family and various political parties and organizations asked the Indian government to make diplomatic efforts to save her.

According to Yemen court documents, Nimisha Priya allegedly killed her local business partner Talal Abdo Mehdi with a intoxicating substance in July 2017 and with the help of another nurse to pieces her body. After this, he threw his mutilated organs into an underground tank.

Yemen’s Supreme Court canceled petition

Sources said that Nimisha was arrested after finding out Mehdi’s murder and allegedly confessed to the murder in a statement. The subordinate court of Yemen sentenced him to death. He challenged this decision in Yemen’s Supreme Court, but his appeal was rejected and the death sentence was upheld.

Sources said that Nimisha then appealed to the President of Yemen for mercy, but he refused to apologize to him. A source said, ‘The family of the deceased Talal Abdo Mehdi is not ready to take money (blood money) instead of waiving the crime of murder. All legal efforts were made for Nimisha Priya, but the allegations against her were so serious that all efforts failed.

Ministry of External Affairs has assured

Various political parties and organizations, especially its home state Kerala, have demanded the Indian government to intervene in the matter to save Nimisha Priya from death sentence. The Ministry of External Affairs has said that it is keeping a close watch on the developments related to the case and providing all possible help.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court of India will hear the petition on Monday (July 14, 2025), requesting the Center to use diplomatic mediums to save the Indian nurse. A bench of Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta can hear the case.

Yemen went to Nimisha with her husband

Sources said that Nimisha Priya was working as a nurse in Yemen since 2008. She told that after marriage in 2011, she reached Yemen with her husband Tommy Thomas. In 2014, her husband returned to Kerala with her daughter due to the civil war in Yemen, while Nimisha stayed in Yemen.
