Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has set a new record. He has become the first leader to hold the post of Chief Minister in the state for the longest time. He has broken the record of Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant, the first Chief Minister of the state in this matter.
Yogi Adityanath has completed 8 years and 132 days of tenure so far while Govind Ballabh Pant’s total tenure (including pre -independence) was 8 years and 127 days. The next assembly elections in the state will now be held in 2027.
The oath was taken as CM on 19 March 2017
Yogi Adityanath was sworn in as Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh on 19 March 2017. After this, he became the Chief Minister for the second consecutive time after the BJP gets a majority in the 2022 assembly elections. He is the first Chief Minister who has held the post again after a full tenure.
Yogi Adityanath’s political journey
Yogi Adityanath is the 22nd Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. Along with being a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), he is also the Mahant i.e. the main priest of Gorakhnath Math in Gorakhpur. In 1998, he had entered politics by winning elections from Gorakhpur Lok Sabha seat at the age of 26 and joined the youngest MPs in the country.
MPs became five times in a row
He was elected to the Lok Sabha from Gorakhpur five times in a row. During the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections in the year 2017, he was among the most prominent and influential faces of BJP. In this election, the party got an absolute majority and on 19 March 2017, Yogi Adityanath took oath as Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.
