Recognizing childhood trauma and ways it can affect you as an adult
Our childhood is often associated with innocence, honesty, fearlessness and more. The resilience in kids is something that is applauded and admired by many. However, children are still vulnerable. They can withstand the tides of time, but they're still weak at heart. While they may have a lot of expression, they may not have the words to elaborate and may go on to suppress their emotions.
This often occurs when children have to deal with traumatic experiences. Parents, while dealing with their own problems and worries, expect children to forgive and forget. What they fail to understand is that kids are impressionable humans, who observe and become conscious of the possible rifts and conflicts that are about to occur. Some such events can even scar them for life and continue to affect them during their adult years.
That said, recognizing childhood trauma is extremely important. If you or someone you know is a victim of such unresolved trauma, you must address it immediately, but with care.
