Shreyas Iyer gears up for a swashbuckling return at Delhi Capitals | Cricket News
“It’s all turning out to be a blessing in disguise,” he says, as Delhi Capitals – already on top of the IPL table with six league matches to go for them – recharge themselves in pursuit of a title they came so close to winning last year.

“The fatigue levels have been managed well. The team is refreshed after a break. And even I’m feeling good and looking forward to the comeback,” Iyer told TOI’s sports podcast, Sportscast, this week.
“It was a freak injury. I dived on the mat and the hand got stuck. But the break allowed me to sit back and wonder about newer perspectives,” he added.

Iyer, however, is not the current captain of the Delhi Capitals team. That baton was passed on to wicket-keeper-batsman Rishabh Pant when Iyer was ruled out of the IPL in April.
“The 2020 edition was a reflection of 2019 when this team had begun coming together so wonderfully and the camaraderie we built was amazing. Every individual had his role carved out and all of that showed in the previous (2020) season. We had a vision, and everybody worked towards it. Unfortunately, we couldn’t win the final. So, I was in the same mindset, to lead the side this season too and carry on from where we had left,” Iyer says, clearly disappointed at how the injury forced a change in plans.
