As the President of America once again, many such decisions have been taken after Trump was elected, which has increased the world’s tension. A few days ago, Trump announced to impose 10 percent tariff on China, due to which the rest of the countries are also in apprehension. Now Donald Trump has taken another big decision, which has caused a crisis on some major projects in India.
In fact, US President Donald Trump has recently decided to stop funding for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Usaid has been an important partner in India’s development for more than 70 years, which supports health, education, sanitation and agriculture related work. Now after stopping the funding of Trump, these projects supported by USAID in India are in danger.
What projects of USAID in India?
It is an organization, which was founded in 1961 US President John F. This organization was formed by Kennedy after World War II. So that the development of other countries can be helped. Since then, USAID has become the largest human and development branch of the US government while working in more than 130 countries. USAID has been working in India for more than 70 years. It is working on health service system, education, improvement of cleanliness and climate change in the country.
How much usaid gave India funds
In the last few years, India has got adequate help from USAID. For FY 2023, India was given about $ 140 million in USAID funding. Although it has been a small part in terms of India’s budget, it has helped a lot in advancing the projects. According to the US report, USAID has distributed $ 55 million on health in India during financial year 2023-24, $ 18 million on environmental projects and Rs 7.8 on social infrastructure.
Why was its funding stopped?
Ban on Usaid funding has been raised after the Trump government reviewed the US foreign aid. This decision has been taken after President Trump’s order to temporarily stop foreign aid. Earlier in January 2021, the USAID was instructed to close all the ongoing projects.
Under this change, Trump’s close aide Alan Musk called USAid a ‘criminal organization’, which further increased concerns about the agency’s future. Trump himself called the USAID ‘a group of radical left -wing’ during a media briefing. Now its funding has been stopped.
