Pakistan Gold Reserve: Naushera, located in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, was once considered a backward area. Now due to the discovery of gold, it is in the headlines. Gold mining is taking place on the banks of the Indus River, which has changed the economic condition of the region. Excavation activities in this area spread from Kund to Nizampur are increasing rapidly. The discovery of gold particles in the Indus River has made Nowshera an important center for mining.
According to the report of Pakistan’s leading newspaper Don, mining work is going on day and night in the Indus river. The excavated laborers fill the soil and stones in the buckets from the depths of the river and then try to remove the gold particles from the sand using a gold sluice mat. Due to this mining activity, the laborers working in the area are also getting better wages. 1000 to 1500 rupees per day is being given to a laborer, which has improved the standard of living of local laborers.
Economic situation changed from gold mine
Placer Gold mining at the confluence of Indus and Kabul rivers in Nowshera has led to a big change in the economic condition of the region. Earlier, mining in this area used to take place at a small scale, but in the last few months this activity has started on a large scale. A large number of people are busy searching for gold at the bottom of the river day and night.
800 billion rupees gold reserves
People’s attention was attracted to the discovery of gold in this region when early this year, Gold reserves of Rs 800 billion were claimed near Attat. Former Punjab Khan and Mineral Minister Ibrahim Hasan Murad made this claim on social media based on the report of Pakistan’s Geological Survey (GSP). This report created enthusiasm throughout the country, which further intensified the search for gold.
Environmental concerns
However, this race of gold discovery and mining has worried the environmental care. The ecosystem of the Indus River is being damaged due to the Plesser Gold Mining. Its direct effect is being seen on the life of the living beings living in the water, because the number of fish has decreased due to excess excavation in the river bottom. Apart from this, the use of mercury is also affecting the quality of river water, which is deteriorating environmental balance.
