The Delhi court approved the withdrawal of treason case against Shehla Rashid, former vice -president of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Anuj Kumar Singh gave this order on the application filed by the prosecution on 27 February.
According to the application, Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG) has withdrawn the approval to prosecute Shehla. The LG approved the prosecution of Shehla on 23 December 2024. Now this approval has been withdrawn on the recommendation of a screening committee.
A case was registered against Shehla in 2019 for inciting treason and riots. He tweeted and accused the army of atrocities in Kashmir.
Shehla joined former IAS Faisal Shah’s party in 2019.
Army was accused of forcibly entering the house JNU’s research scholar and Kashmiri leader Shehla Rashid wrote things related to atrocities on people in Jammu and Kashmir after removing Article 370. He made 10 consecutive tweets against the army and the central government on Twitter.
Shehla wrote on her Twitter account that the current situation in the Kashmir Valley is very bad. Security forces are entering the houses and persecuting the children and the youth are being detained for hours on the pretext of questioning.
