Delhi Capitals will play their first match against Lucknow Supergiants in Visakhapatnam on 24 March this season. The franchise will win the tournament for the first time with its new captain Akshar Patel.

New Delhi: Finally, Delhi Capitals made Akshar Patel their captain for IPL 2025. It was discussing for a long time. But the official announcement was left. Akshar Patel has been associated with the franchise since 2019. Last November, before the mega auction, the letter was retained for Rs 16.50 crore.
Not much experience of captaincy
Akshar Patel does not have much experience of captaincy, but he was made the vice-captain of the Indian T20 team in January this year. 31 -year -old Akshar has led his state team Gujarat in 23 matches in all formats. Recently, he also captained the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2024-25. Akshar captained Delhi in an IPL match last year, when Rishabh Pant was facing the ban due to slow over rate. This was a match that Delhi needed to win under any circumstances. But after losing to RCB, the team was out of the playoffs.
