9 more cases of Guilan-Baire syndrome (GBS) appeared in Solapur, Maharashtra. Due to which the number of patients has increased to 110. According to the Health Department, 73 men and 37 women are included. 17 patients are on ventilator support.
Earlier on Sunday, a 40 -year -old man from Solapur died due to suffering from this GB syndrome, which was also confirmed by state health minister Prakash Abitkar.
According to Dr. Sanjeev Thakur, Dean of Solapur Government Medical College, the patient had symptoms like breathlessness, weakness and diarrhea in the lower limbs. He was continuously on ventilator support since 18 January.
Dean reported that clinical post -mortem was done to find out the cause of death. In which the reason was described as GB syndrome. Blood Sample National Institute of Virology (NIV) has been sent for investigation.
34 water samples from different parts of the city were also sent to public health labs for chemical and biologic analysis. Of these, seven samples have been reported to be contaminated.
Significantly, on January 9, GBS positive patients hospitalized in Pune came, this was the first case. Active cases have increased in 19 days.

The health department teams in Solapur are surveying to examine the patients. A total of 35,068 houses have been surveyed so far. These include 23,017 houses of Pune Municipal Corporation, 4,441 houses of Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation and 7610 houses from rural areas.
Health Minister Prakash Abitkar also revealed that 80% of cases of GB syndrome have been reported from the vicinity of a large well in Nanded village on Sinhagarh Road.
44 stool samples have been sent to NIV. All were tested for the active virus panel. Of these, 14 are Norovirus positive and 5 Campillobacter positive. Campillobacter Jejuni bacteria, which usually causes abdominal infection, triggers GBS disease. Drinking contaminated water from this bacteria may increase the risk of nerve disorder.
Apart from this, 59 blood samples were also sent to NIV for investigation. All these zika, dengue, chikungunya negative were found.
Center sent teams to help Maharashtra government
The central government has sent a high level specialist team to help the Maharashtra government regarding the increasing cases of GBS. The team of this 7 -member team of the Ministry of Health includes the National Disease Control Center (NCDC) Delhi, Nimhans Bangalore, Regional Office of Health and Family Welfare and National Institute of Virus Sciences (NIV), Pune.
However, the state government has also advised people to drink boiled water to avoid GB syndrome. Avoid eating cold food.
Treatment is also expensive, the price of an injection is 20 thousand
Treatment of GBS is also expensive. According to doctors, patients usually have to get immunoglobulin (IVIG) injections. The price of an injection in a private hospital is 20 thousand rupees. The family of a 68 -year -old patient hospitalized in Pune said that the patient had to put 13 injections during treatment.
According to the doctors, 80% of the patients in the grip of GBS start walking without any support in 6 months after discharge from the hospital. But in many cases the patient takes one year or more time.
