At the same time, on Tuesday (June 24), the Secretary of the Ministry of Law appeared in the meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Personnel, Law and Justice of Rajya Sabha. During this time, members have asked questions on many issues.
According to sources, the members on the case asked why the FIR was not registered in the case of Justice Verma? Apart from this, the question also arose that when there is no provision to suspend the judge, how did the Chief Justice of India withdraw the case from him? If there was a serious matter then why did not take action? At the same time, some members also questioned that Justice Yashwant Verma is still getting facilities like car, staff, which is unfair?
Code of Conduct for Judges limited to paper only
During this time, the code of conduct has been discussed. In the committee meeting, it arose that the code of conduct for judges is limited to papers only, it is not followed at the ground level. It was also said that while all the officials make public information about their property, the judges do not do so, which raises questions on transparency.
While objections have been raised to participation in activities related to political organizations. Some members objected to the participation of judges in politically affiliated programs, indirectly mentioned some recent programs. At the same time, the issue of appointments for political gains has also been done in the meeting. It was also alleged that some judges take ‘plum posting’ (beneficial posts) by benefiting political parties.
Apart from this, concern has been expressed about the advocacy of family members. Many members expressed concern about the advocacy of relatives in judicial institutions and said that just to say that no lawyer appear in the court of his relative judge, is not enough, the presence of kinship in the entire judicial premises should be reconsidered.
Suggestion given to review Veerwamy case in the meeting
According to the information received by sources, the suggestion of reviewing the Veeraswamy case has also come out in the meeting. Along with this, a proposal has also been made to implement the cooling-off period after the code of conduct and retirement of the judges.
