Waqf amendment bill Congress Gaurav Gogoi and Pramod Tiwari said dictatorship and fascism are ingrained in DNA of BJP Ann | Congress accused BJP of interrupting Parliament proceedings, bid

After passing the Waqf Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, on Friday (April 4, 2025), Congress Deputy Leader Gaurav Gogoi and Deputy Leader of Rajya Sabha Pramod Tiwari said that dictatorship and fascism have merged into BJP’s DNA. Pramod Tiwari said that this is the first time that the ruling party is disrupting the proceedings of the House. He said that three hours were allotted for discussion on Manipur but it was discussed only 50 minutes. The government deliberately carried out the proceedings of Rajya Sabha at night to avoid long discussion on this subject.

Pramod Tiwari further informed that the program of the House was arbitrarily extended without approval from the members. On Thursday, the Rajya Sabha was discussed till 4 am on issues like Waqf Amendment Bill and Manipur without taking approval of the House to extend the time of proceedings in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, which is a violation of Rule 37. He also condemned BJP MP Anurag Thakur for making unfounded allegations in the Lok Sabha against Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge.

‘Why did the amendment of the Act support in 2013’
Gaurav Gogoi said that Parliament is no longer a platform to raise the voice of the people, but the House has become the court of Prime Minister Modi, where his cheering is accepted but the government’s criticism is suppressed. On the basis of facts, he explained how the members of the ruling party are regularly disrupting and postponing it to avoid accountability and responsibility. Referring to the Waqf Bill, Gogoi asked the BJP why he had supported the amendment in the Act in 2013.

‘What was the conversation between PM Modi and Mohammad Yunus’
Gaurav Gogoi also criticized the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and said that he is not a member of that House after Congress Parliamentary Party President Sonia Gandhi was indirectly mentioned in the Lok Sabha. He also raised the issue of allowing Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi to speak only a few minutes in a one -month budget session.

Gogoi asked questions to the Prime Minister, saying what the conversation took place during the meeting between him and Bangladesh’s Chief Advisor Mohammad Yunus on Friday. He said that Yunus had given a controversial statement on Chinese investment in the Northeast of India. He also cited a letter written by Prime Minister Modi to Yunus on the safety of Hindu minorities in Bangladesh and hoped that Prime Minister Modi may have raised both issues during the meeting.
